“An effective symbol stands the test of time. Even though
the name(s) of the Federal Government client and departments changed several
times in the 10 year course of this project, the recognizable ‘containment’
symbol has remained a constant, and
is even employed in architectural details within the facility itself.”

Information Architecture
In 1989 Circle designed the well-known “box within a box”
containment symbol for this biohazard research facility as a part of initial
proposals for the architectural firm Smith Carter. Seven years later Circle
was again engaged re: the same project—this time to produce an informative capabilities brochure
leveraging Smith Carter’s exclusive experience in the design and construction
of high level biohazard containment facilities. The information-rich, multi-lingual piece features an illustrated ten-year project timeline, architectural renderings, and cutaway views of facility functions and features.
